"Just Tell Me What To Do" Is the Reason You're Still Stuck
Why your weight loss or muscle building results are doomed BEFORE you even start...
“A good farmer spends more time clearing the field than they do planting the seed.”
I had that in my phone notepad from...well...who knows when.
It was waaaaaaaay far down there in the notes...
Granted I was cleaning them out because I realized I had a whole bunch that were in need of a delete (you know those random middle of the night thoughts that seem amazing until the next day you read them and go HUH!?) so it may not have been from that long ago buuuuttttt...
But when I saw that a light bulb went off in my brain.
We always want to jump to planting the seed before we’ve cleared the field when it comes to achieving our weight loss or muscle gaining goals.
And this is so often why we don’t see the results grow in the way we want.
We want to get to doing the act we think will make the most difference...the act we deem the most fun or important or exciting in the process.
I literally even see this basically commented daily on posts and videos...
“This is too long. Stop telling me about it and just tell me what to do.”
“Bla bla bla. Just get to the point of what I should actually do.”
We want the “tactic.”
The macro ratio.
The food to eliminate.
The workout to do.
The exercise we should include.
We don’t first want to learn WHY the changes would help or WHY they are key for us.
We don’t want to better understand why we’re currently STUCK.
We don’t even first want to fully assess our current lifestyle to better understand what may or may not be right for us so we can see results truly build from the next thing we implement.
But this is like then attempting to plant a carrot seed in a field overgrown with WEEDS.
There is so much else there going on WRONG, so much else going on there we don’t understand, so much else just going on there in general...
That there is no way we are going to be able to grow that seed into anything even if we wanted to!
Even if we worked super hard with planting it and taking care of it after.
I know we don’t want to “waste” time planning and preparing and thinking through what will be needed to achieve results, BUT...
So much of why something leads to success is the PREP WORK we’ve actually done prior to even starting.
The more we have true clarity on what needs to be done and why it needs to be done, the more prepared we even are for any struggles.
Heck, the more we’ve even CLEARED AWAY struggles before they happen because we’ve taken time to acknowledge where the pitfalls may be!
The more we do all of that work to set ourselves up for success....
...the boring mindset work...
...the goal setting we feel is stupid...
....the understanding why macros are key...
...or why a specific workout design may or may not work...
The more we create the perfect environment for GROWTH.
We can’t succeed if we aren’t prepared to truly implement and sustain the new habits no matter how amazing or perfect the habits are.
Because we aren’t just fighting a fight to create new habits. We’re fighting a fight to clear away OLD ONES.
Those old habits are like weeds that have very very...did I say very!?...strong roots.
That’s why we need to truly take time to understand where we are RIGHT NOW and what and WHY we need to do certain things to move forward.
We need to recognize the old habits so we can prevent them from sabotaging new ones.
We can’t just keep skipping to doing without learning. Without assessing.
And I do get the desire just to seek to plant something new...
It’s why those fad diets are so tempting...they’re just planting that seed.
But that’s also why you keep not seeing results truly build.
It’s why it gets harder month over month, year over year, to achieve your goals.
Stop sabotaging yourself by not pausing to clear the field first.
Set yourself up for success this time.
Do all the prep work. Learn the why. Embrace new mindsets.
Then act.
You’ll thank yourself for taking time to really clear that field before you plant the seed.
